ADHD:
Mollie was in 2012 evaluated at the psychiatric hospital, where she attended school/kindergarten for seven weeks. During this, the staff evaluated on her difficulties and how to deal with them. After watching and testing Mollie, they came to the following conclusion: Mollie has ADHD, extreme diversion and she is retarded to a medium/severe extent. Mollies diversion is so pronounced, that she has trouble concentrating on one activity, even though it is something she really wants to do. It is not possible to give Mollie Ritalin because of her heart failure, which left us clueless in regards to her diversion. But since she has been diagnosed, we have heard that fish oil should have a positive effect on children with ADHD. The fish oil might be able to relieve her diversion and her lack of concentration. And the result of this should be a chance to develop and learn more. We are determent to try this method on Mollie in the next few months. We hope that this will give Mollie some peace and energy to develop. We will follow up on the results of this.
The experts’ conclusion on Mollie being retarded is, seen from our point of view, a result of her diversion, as it is hard to evaluate Mollie in this very matter. We often see a girl who can see connections between things and understand what is going on around her.
We hope that getting these diagnoses might help us in getting a wider acknowledgement of Mollies difficulties, since these diagnoses are far more known than Microdeletion syndrome 16p11.2-p12.2.
Initiatives:
During the last months, we have given Mollie fish oil every day and it seems to have a positive effect on her concentration. It means that Mollie is able to focus on one activity for a longer time than before and she learns new things faster than earlier. But even though this has helped a lot, it is still necessary to spend a lot of time with her, and it is hard for her to focus on one activity if she is alone. But she is calmer and it is easier for her to be relaxed.
The advanced ability to concentrate means that Mollie is able to stay focused on one activity with other kids for a longer period of time. This has of cause improved her social skills. She has begun to play role games and imagine games.
We give Mollie this fish oil: Eye Q with lemon taste. It’s a liquid fish oil and it’s not as fat as usual. We mix the fish oil with apple juice.
Quantity of fish oil: We gave Mollie 5 ml 3 times a day for 12 weeks. Now we give her 5 ml once a day.
In the beginning it was hard to get her to drink the fish oil, but now it’s no problem at all. She even reminds us if we forget it. We are certain that it has an effect and therefore we will continue giving her fish oil.
