Mollie

Motor coordination development:

Mollie has a slow motor coordination  development, and learning to walk and talk has been a great challenge for Mollie. She has a lot of tensions in her body, and she has a bit of a stiff way of walking. She also waves her arms around, but this mainly happens when she is eager or extra happy.  She used to hold her arms out to the side, in order to keep her balance, but now she only does it when she runs.

Initiative:

Since birth, Mollie has had a poor ability to balance, which has been a major reason for her difficulties when trying to walk. In order to help her, we gave her a walking cart. Mollie has never been able to crawl, due to the fact that she couldn’t lie on her stomach, because of her hart failure. Mollie learned how to walk through daily training in the garden, when she was two years old. We put up a small toy wind mill in different places, and Mollie loved to walk towards it. However, she needed a helping hand. In the hope of improving her slow motor coordination development and her poor ability to balance, we bought a trampoline. This turned out to be a great investment, and Mollies difficulties has been reduced. Today Mollie can run.

5 years of age: Mollie still has a slightly stiff way of walking, but she is able to handle any obstacles.
6 years of age: Mollies has become very good at cycling with a supporting wheel.
7 years of age: Mollie is now able to walk a lot longer than before. To walk a few kilometers is no problem for her. She can run a short distance. Mollie can almost stand on one leg and she can jump forward. Her ability to catch a ball has also improved. She is getting better at riding a bike with support wheels, but if we ride with her in traffic, we use a “half bike” attached to our bike, because it’s not safe to let her ride the bike on her own. Obviously she is constantly developing.
